Comments: Candidates’ “scholarship might illuminate any of the following: the creation, maintenance, transformation, interruption, or breakdown of family and kinship ties, including the role of legal and state intervention; the centrality of family and kinship in the construction of race, nation, diaspora, colonialism, gender, sexuality, or class; the social place of genetics and medical technologies in notions of relatedness; and/or the capacity of familial, genealogical, and ancestral source materials to interrupt and challenge disciplinary methods, analyses, and archival conventions. Disciplinary affiliation is open and may include anthropology, history, comparative literature, religion, material and visual culture, and critical theory, among others.”
